Lithium hydroxide (0.019 g) was added to a solution of 1,1-dioxo-3-butyl-3-ethyl-5-phenyl-7-bromo-8-[1′-phenyl-1′-ethoxycarbonylmethoxy]-2,3,4,5-tetrahydro-1,5-benzothiazepine (Method 3; 0.244 g, 0.397 mmol) in THF/H2O (2/1, 3 ml). After 2 days the solvent was removed under reduced pressure and the crude mixture was purified by HPLC to give the title compound 0.215 g (92%) as a white solid. NMR (CD3OD) 0.60–0.80 (m, 6H), 0.90–1.25 (m, 4H), 1.30–1.60 (m, 4H), 3.05–3.30 (m, 2H), 3.40–3.90 (m, 2H), 5.55 (s, 1H), 6.85–7.70 (m, 12H).
