A mixture composed of 7.4 g. of 2-(2-chloro-5-thiadiazolyl)-1-methyl-5-nitroimidazole (Example 16), 6 g. of piperidine, and 200 ml. of dioxane is stirred at room temperture for 24 hours, and then taken to dryness under reduced pressure. The residue is shaken with 100 ml. of water and the insoluble portion collected and dried. Recrystallization from 150 ml. of 2-methoxyethanol gives 7.6 g. of the subject compound melting at 212°-213° C.
