[I; R=4-Cl, R' and R"=H, Alk=CH3, OH at 4-position] is obtainable by esterification of 4-chloro-2-(4-hydroxyphenylamino)benzoic acid with methanol and hydrochloric acid; or by esterification of 4-chloro-2-(4-methoxyphenylamino)benzoic acid with dimethyl sulfate, followed by de-etherification of the resulting methyl 4-chloro-2-(4-methoxyphenylamino)benzoate with boron tribromide.
