The product of Example 2, 2-amino-5 chloro-3-cyano-6-[(2-hydroxyethyl)amino]pyrazine (68 mg), was dissolved in pyridine (0.5 ml) and there was then added acetic anhydride (0.5 ml). The reaction mixture was stirred at room temperature for 2 hours, at which point thin layer chromatography showed no starting material remaining. Ice and then water were added to the reaction mixture, after which it was stirred for an additional 15 minutes. The product precipitated, was filtered, washed once with water, and dried (62.7 mg).
