(Z)-2,2-dimethyl-7-(3-pyridyl)-7-(2-thienyl)-6-heptenoic acid (1.0 g) was heated in 50% aqueous phosphoric acid (20 ml) at 100° C. for 20 hours, and the product was separated and extracted in the conventional manner. High performance liquid chromatography of this crude product revealed that its E isomer/Z isomer ratio was E/Z=56:23. The crude product was separated in the same manner as Example 2 to give (E)-2,2-dimethyl-7-(3-pyridyl)-7-(2-thienyl)-6-heptenoic acid (0.48 g).
