Reaction Steps
One drop of concentrated sulfuric acid is added to a solution of 6-[2,3-epoxypropoxy]-2-sulfamoylbenzo[b]furan (7.0 mmol) in methanol (25 ml). After 18 hours, the methanol is removed under vacuum. The residue is dissolved in ethyl acetate (200 ml), washed with water (2×25 ml), brine (2×25 ml) and dried (Na2SO4). The ethyl acetate is removed under vacuum. The white solid remaining is recrystallized from boiling ethyl acetate.
