5.0 g of 3,4-dihydro-6,7-dimethoxy-1-phenyl-3-(3-pyridyl)isoquinoline in 150 ml of diethylene glycol diethyl ether are heated at 160° C. under an atmosphere of nitrogen with 2.5 g of palladium on animal charcoal (10%) for 2.5 hours. The catalyst is filtered off, the solution is evaporated in a rotary evaporator and the residue is washed with ether. 4.0 g of the isoquinoline compound of melting point 176°-177° C. are isolated.
