To a solution of 2.0 g. of 3-(4-chlorophenyl)-1-methyl-5-(3-trifluoromethylphenyl)-4(1H)-pyridinone in 15 ml. of chloroform was added 5.0 ml. of methyl fluorosulfonate and the mixture was allowed to stand at room temperature for 2 days. The solvent was removed in vacuo and the residue was dissolved in chloroform and the solution washed with water. The chloroform was removed and the residue was crystallized from chloroform-hexane to obtain 0.4 g. of product, m.p. 224°-227°.
