Procedure

A mixture containing 4.0 g of 3-(4-chlorophenyl)-4-methylene-2-oxo-8-phenoxycarbonyl-1-oxa-3,8-diazaspiro[4,5]decane and 6.13 ml of N-(2-hydroxyethyl)piperazine in 20 ml of ortho-xylene is refluxed under nitrogen for 60 hours. After cooling down, the reaction mixture is diluted with 20 ml of xylene and the organic solution is washed first with an aqueous saturated sodium chloride solution containing 5% by weight of sodium hydroxide and then with aqueous saturated sodium chloride solution. After drying over anhydrous magnesium sulfate and then evaporating the solvent under reduced pressure the crude product obtained is recrystallized from a mixture of benzene and hexane under clarifying by activated carbon to give the title compound in 67% yield, m.p.: 185°-186° C.
