Trifluoroacetic acid (0.5 mL) was added to a solution of tert-butyl 2-(4-(4-cyclopropylnaphthalen-1-yl)-5-phenyl-4H-1,2,4-triazol-3-ylthio)-2-methylpropanoate (25 mg, 0.051 mmol) in dichloromethane (2 mL) and the mixture stirred at room temperature for 20 hours. The mixture was then concentrated, dissolved in ethyl acetate (5 mL) and washed with water (2×5 mL). The combined aqueous layers were washed with ethyl acetate (5 mL) and the combined organic extracts were dried over sodium sulfate, filtered concentrated and purified by column chromatography (1% AcOH/40% EtOAc/hexanes) to give 2-(4-(4-cyclopropylnaphthalen-1-yl)-5-phenyl-4H-1,2,4-triazol-3-ylthio)-2-methylpropanoic acid as a brown paste (14 mg, 64%).
