Procedure

For the synthesis of the title compound, 16.6 g (0.057 mol) of [2-(3-chlorophenyl-ethyl]-4-methoxybenzoic acid, 7.25 g (0.06 mol) of SOCl2, 250 ml of methylene chloride and 10 g of AlCl3 (0.075 mol) are employed in method K. Purification is carried out by column chromatography (flash; SiO2; hexane 90%/ethyl acetate 10%). C16H13ClO2(Mr=272.73)
