A mixture 1,1-dimethylethyl 7-[2-(acetylamino)-1,3-thiazol-5-yl]-2,3-dihydro-1,4-benzoxazepine-4(5H)-carboxylate (0.29 g, 0.75 mmol), in methanol (2 mL) and 4 M hydrogen chloride in 1,4-dioxane (2 mL) was stirred at 70° C. for 15 minutes. The reaction mixture was cooled and concentrated, and dried in vacuum to give the de-protected product N-[5-(2,3,4,5-tetrahydro-1,4-benzoxazepin-7-yl)-1,3-thiazol-2-yl]acetamide hydrochloride (0.24 g, 0.24 mmol, 99% yield); MS (EI) for C14H15N3O2S: 290 (MH+).
