To a slurry of 1,1-dimethylethyl 7-(4-{[(2,2-difluoroethyl)amino]carbonyl}phenyl)-2,3-dihydro-1,4-benzoxazepine-4(5H)-carboxylate (0.95 g, 2.2 mmol) and methanol (30 mL) was added hydrogen chloride (4 M in dioxane, 3.3 mL, 13 mmol). The reaction mixture was heated (50° C.) for 1.5 hours then concentrated. The resulting residue was suspended in ethyl ether (15 mL) and the solid collected by filtration to give N-(2,2-difluoroethyl)-4-(2,3,4,5-tetrahydro-1,4-benzoxazepin-7-yl)benzamide hydrochloride salt (0.65 g, 80% yield) as a white solid. MS (EI) for C18H18F2N2O2: 333 (MH+).
