4-Chloro-5,8-difluoro-2-methylquinoline (8.18 g) in dimethylformamide (80 ml) was treated with sodium azide (3.7 g) and the mixture heated for 20 h. The mixture was cooled, poured into ice/water and extracted with dichloromethane (2×200 ml). The organic phase was washed with water, dried (Na2SO4) and solvent removed at reduced pressure. The residue was column chromatographed (silica gel (5-20% diethyl ether in pentane) to give the title compound (5.45 g) as a colourless solid. (Method C). 1H NMR δ: 2.67 (3H, s), 7.29 (1H, m), 7.54 (1H, s), 7.58(1H, m).
