To a mixture of 1H-indazole-4-carbonitrile (1.65 g, 11.1 mmol) in DMF (30 mL) was added KOH (1.86 g 33.3 mmol) and I2 (5.6 g 22.2 mmol). The mixture was stirred at RT for 5 h. The reaction mixture was quenched with water (100 mL) and extracted with EtOAc (200 mL). The extract was concentrated in vacuo to afford 3-iodo-1H-indazole-4-carbonitrile as white solid (2.01 g, 64.7%). MS (ESI): m/z=270 [M+1]+.
