To a solution of 64 (1.0 g, 4.34 mmol) in MeOH (10 mL) at 0° C. was added a solution of MeNH2 in EtOH (33%, 2 mL). After stirring at RT for 2 h, the mixture was concentrated under reduced pressure to afford 1.0 g (94%) of N-((1-(tetrahydro-2H-pyran-2-yl)-1H-benzo[d]imidazol-5-yl)methylene)-methanamine (66) as yellow oil: MS (ESI) m/z=244.2 [M+1]+.
