To a stirred solution of (4-methyl-piperidin-4-yl)-carbamic acid benzyl ester (0.5 g, 2.02 mmol, Example 30B) in dioxane (5.0 mL) at room temperature was added 2,5-dichloro-pyridine (0.4 g, 2.79 mmol) and diisopropylethyl amine (0.2 mL, 1.1 mmol). The reaction mixture was stirred at 80° C. for 48 hours, concentrated under reduced pressure and purified by flash chromatography with 10% to 40% ethyl acetate in hexane to provide (5′-chloro-4-methyl-3,4,5,6-tetrahydro-2H-(1,2′)bipyridinyl-4-yl)-carbamic acid benzyl ester. MS (CI) m/z 360 (M+1)+; 1H NMR (300 MHz, CDCl3) δ ppm 8.01 (d, 1H), 7.49 (dd, 1H), 7.36-7.27 (m, 5H), 7.26 (m, 1H), 6.78 (d, 1H), 5.04 (s, 2H), 3.82 (m, 2H), 3.21 (m, 2H), 2.15 (m, 2H), 1.58 (m, 2H), 1.35 (s, 3H).
