Procedure

903 mg of 2-benzyl-3-(2-pyridylthio)-propionic acid ethyl ester (Example 13c)) are boiled under reflux for 10 hours in 10 ml of 4N HCl. The reaction mixture is extracted with methylene chloride/methanol 10:1. The extracts are adjusted to pH 6 with NaHCO3 solution and subsequently washed with brine, dried with Na2SO4 and concentrated by evaporation. The residue is lyophilised from dioxan/water. Rf (I)=0.2.
