Procedure

A mixture of methyl 6-(pyridin-2-yl)-5-hexenoate (4.97 g, 21.0 mmol) and 10% palladium on carbon (200 mg) in methanol (100 ml) was stirred overnight under hydrogen atmosphere. The reaction mixture was filtered. Evaporation of solvent from the filtrate yielded a target product, methyl 6-(pyridin-2-yl)-hexanoate (4.1 g, 94%).
