6-(2-Azidoethanoyl)-3H-benzothiazol-2-one (0.5 g, 2.14 mmol) and Pd—C (5%, 0.17 g) in methanol (40 mL) and concentrated HCl (0.5 mL) were subjected to hydrogenation at 20 psi and 25° C. for 1 hour. The catalyst was removed by filtration through a ‘filter aid’ and the solvent removed to give 6-(2-aminoethanoyl)-3H-benzothiazol-2-one hydrochloride as a light brown solid (0.5 g, 96%).
