To a solution of (2R, 5S)-2-(4-chloro-2-nitro-phenoxy)-1-[4-(4-fluoro-benzyl)-2,5-dimethyl-piperazin-1-yl]-ethanone (2.2 g, 5.05 mmol) in ethanol (50 ml) in a par bottle was added 5% platinum on carbon (2.2 g). The reaction mixture was subjected to hydrogen gas (35 psi) for thirty minutes. The reaction mixture was filtered through celite and washed with ethanol. The filtrate was concentrated to give a tan foam. Chromatography on silica gel gave the title compound (1.42 g, 70% yield).
