Procedure

A mixture of the compound obtained in Example 114 (200 mg), 10% aqueous hydrochloric acid (3 ml) and dioxane (5 ml) was stirred at 80° C. for 30 minutes. The reaction mixture was cooled to room temperature and poured into water. The mixture was extracted with ethyl acetate. The ethyl acetate layer was washed with water and dried (MgSO4) and the solvent was distilled off under reduced pressure to obtain (4-{3-chloro-2-[(2,5-dioxo-1-pyrrolidinyl)methyl]-7,7-dioxido-5,8-dihydro-6H-thiopyrano-[4′,3′:4,5]-thieno[2,3-b]pyridin-4-yl}phenoxy)acetic acid (130 mg, 72%). It was recrystallized from acetone-hexane. Colorless prisms. Melting point 260-261° C.
