Procedure

Piperazine bislauric acid methyl ester was then dissolved in isopropanol at room temperature. A small amount of 50% NaOH solution was added to the reaction mixture. The reaction was stirred overnight at 55° C. The reaction was then stopped by cooling down to room temperature and the pH of the solution was adjusted to 10. The crude product was extracted with n-butanol twice and the organic layer was then collected and the solvent was evaporated under reduced pressure. The remaining solid material was washed with ethanol again and dried under vacuum. Both 1H-NMR and 13C-NMR spectral analysis agreed with the expected structure of the final product. The yield of the reaction was about 95%.
