A solution of 4.4 g of MCPBA in 150 ml of methylene chloride was added drop-by-drop (over 15 minutes) to a stirred mixture of 5.4 g of 1E and 150 ml of methylene chloride, at 0° C. The mixture then was stirred at 0° C. for 15 minutes, washed with 10% aqueous sodium carbonate solution, then cold water, dried (MgSO4) and the solvent was evaporated, to give 1, as an orange oil.
