7.0 g of 1-amino-5-mercapto-1H-tetrazole and 0.6 g of benzaldehyde were dissolved in 120 ml of ethanol, and the solution was stirred at room temperature for 4 hours. After the reaction, the solution was evaporated to remove solvent. The residue was dissolved in 50 ml of ethyl acetate. The ethyl acetate solution was washed with water, dried and evaporated to remove solvent. Then, isopropyl ether was added to the residue obtained, and the crystalline precipitates were collected by filtration. 8.0 g of 1-benzylideneamino-5-mercapto-1H-tetrazole were obtained as colorless needles. mp 119°-120° C.
