A solution of the product from step (a) (3.0 g) and c.HCl (0.5 ml) in methanol (100 ml) was refluxed for 1 hour. The solvents were evaporated in vacuo and the residue flash chromatographed through a silica column using methanol/chloroform (3:100 v/v) to give the desired product as a pale yellow solid (2.7 g). The 200 MHz 1H NMR was consistent with the proposed structure.
