Procedure
2,3-Difluoropropylbenzene is obtained by lithiating o-difluorobenzene at -70° to -80° and reacting with propionaldehyde, dehydrating the secondary alcohol produced and subsequently hydrogenating the double bond. Re-metallation and reaction with dry ice gives 2,3-difluoro-4-propylbenzoic acid. From this acid, 4-(4'-pentylbiphenyl) 2,3-difluoro-4-propylbenzoate, C 74° Sc 86° N 160.1° I, is obtained analogously to Example 1 by esterification using 4-pentyl-4'-hydroxybiphenyl anddicyclohexylcarbodiimide.
