A mixture of ethyl 4-[3-[4-(5,6-dihydro-4H-1,3-oxazin-2-yl)phenoxy]propyl]-1-piperidinecarboxylate, 26,3 parts of potassium hydroxide and 200 parts of 2-propanol was stirred and refluxed for 3 hours. After evaporation, water was added ant eh solvent was distilled off till all traces of 2-propanol were removed. After cooling, ice water was added to the product was extracted with dichloromethane. The organic layer was dried, filtered and evaporated, yielding 14.5 parts (100%) of 5,6-dihydro-2-[4-[3-(4-piperidinyl) propoxy]phenyl]-4H-1,3-oxazine as a residue (int. 60).
