To a solution of 2.62 g (10 mmol) of 7-bromomethyl-3chlorobezo[b]thiophene in 10 ml of dimethyl sulfoxide were added 1.7 g (12 mmol) of (E)-N-(3-chloro-2-propenyl)methylamine hydrochloride and 2.07 g (15 mmol) of ground potassium carbonate. The mixture was stirred for 16 hours at room temperature, and poured into 150 ml of dichloromethane. The organic layer was washed with 100 ml×2 of water and 50 ml of saturated sodium chloride aqueous solution, dried over anhydrous magnesium sulfate and then concentrated-.under reduced pressure. The residue was subjected to silica gel column chromatography (n-heptane). The desired fractions were put together and concentrated under reduced pressure to obtain 2.12 g (yield: 74%) of the above identified compound as an oil.
