Dissolve 1.7 gm. of 3-cyano-8-fluorodibenzo[b,f]thiepine in 90 ml. of methylene chloride and add 1.36 gm. of 85% m-chloroperbenzoic acid. Stir the mixture at room temperature for 90 minutes. Add 4 gm. of calcium hydroxide over 15 minutes. Filter and strip the filtrate to dryness. Triturate the residue in 30 ml. of ether for 2 hours. Separate the solids by filtration to obtain the title product. (mp. 240°-243° C.).
