A mixture of 5.00 g of 2-butyl-6-iodo-4(1H)-quinazolinone, 16.98 g of 5-[4'-(bromomethyl)[1,1'-bi-phenyl]-2-yl]-1-(triphenylmethyl) -1H-tetrazole and 0.695 g of lithium methoxide in 60 ml of tetrahydrofuran is heated at reflux for 40 hours. The reaction mixture is cooled, filtered and concentrated in vacuo to a residue which is purified by column chromatography on silica gel by elution with 1:9 ethyl acetate-hexanes to 1:5 ethyl acetate-hexanes to give 6.638 g of the desired product as a solid.
