Reaction Steps
A solution of 0.90 g of sodium hydroxide in 9.0 ml of water was added to 6 g of 2-methyl-2-[{2-(1,3-benzodioxol-5-yl)ethyl}thio]propionic acid to obtain a solution. 100 ml of ethanol was added to the solution and the solvent was distilled off. The residue was washed with ether. After filtration, the product was dried under reduced pressure to obtain 6 g of the intended compound in the form of a white powder.
