To a mixture of 2-amino-3,4-bis(4-chlorophenyl)butane hydrochloride salt (Diastereomer α, Section I, Reference Example 1, 0.31 g, 0.94 mmol) and 2-(4-chlorophenylamino)-2-methylpropionic acid (0.20 g, 0.94 mmol) in 5 mL CH2Cl2 was added N-methylmorpholine (0.41 mL, 3.5 mmol) and tris(pyrrolindinyl) phosphonium hexafluorophosphate (0.73 g, 1.4 mmol). After stirring at RT overnight, the reaction mixture was loaded onto a silica gel column eluted with 30% EtOAc in hexane to give the title compound. 1H NMR (400 MHz, CD3OD): δ 7.18 (d, 2H), 7.04 (d, 2H), 7.02 (d, 2H), 6.97 (d, 2H), 6.70 (d, 2H), 6.56 (d, 2H), 4.20 (m, 1H), 3.02 (dd, 1H), 2.78 (ddd, 1H), 2.64 (dd, 1H), 1.52 (s, 3H), 1.45 (s, 3H), 0.82 (d, 3H). LC-MS: m/e 489 (M+H)+ (4.3 min).
