(3R)-Morpholin-4-yl-piperidin-3-yl-methanone (2.25 g, 11.4 mmol) was reacted with tert-butyl 4-oxo-1-piperidinecarboxylate (1 eq., 2.27 g) under conditions analogous to those described above for the preparation of Intermediate 1 to give (3R)-3-(morpholine-4-carbonyl)-[1,4′]bipiperidinyl-1′-carboxylic acid tert-butyl ester (3.00 g, 69%).
