A mixture of intermediate (6) (0.023 mole) and Na2CO3 (0.023 mole) in DMF (150 ml) was stirred. Methyl α-bromo-α-phenylacetate (0.023 mole) was added dropwise. The mixture was stirred overnight. The solvent was evaporated. The residue was dissolved in DCM. The organic layer was separated, washed, dried, filtered and the solvent was evaporated. The residue was triturated in DIPE. The precipitate was filtered off and dried, yielding 11.4 g of methyl α-phenyl-4-[4-[[[4′-(trifluoromethyl)[1,1′-biphenyl]-2-yl]carbonyl]amino]phenyl]-1-piperazineacetate identified as compound No. 40 in the following table F-1.
