To a solution of 6-phenylnicotinic acid (D48) (500 mg, 2.51 mmol), 1-(3-dimethylaminopropyl)-3-ethylcarbodiimide hydrochloride (963 mg, 5.03 mmol) and 1-hydroxybenzotriazole hydrate (340 mg, 2.51 mmol) in DCM (20 ml) was added a solution of 7-amino-1-methyl-1,2,3,4-tetrahydroquinoline (D3) (407 mg, 2.51 mmol) in DCM (5 ml). The reaction mixture was stirred overnight then washed with sat. aq. sodium hydrogen carbonate solution (2×20 ml) and brine (20 ml). The organics were dried over MgSO4 and concentrated in vacuo to give the crude product which was purified by flash column chromatography. Elution with 10-20% EtOAc/DCM gave the title compound as a yellow solid. 1H NMR (250 MHz, CDCl3) δ (ppm): 9.14 (d, 1H), 8.25 (dd, 1H), 8.07 (m, 2H), 7.85 (d, 1H), 7.71 (br, 1H), 7.48 (m, 3H), 7.03 (br, 1H), 6.93 (d, 1H), 6.75 (dd, 1H), 3.25 (m, 2H), 2.93 (s, 3H), 2.75 (t, 2H), 1.98 (m, 2H).
