A mixture of 4.16 g of 6-[4-(4-(5-cyanobenzimidazol-1-yl)butyl)piperazino]-1,4-benzodioxane, 2.4 g of NaOH, 50 ml of H2O and 40 ml of diethylene glycol monoethyl ether is stirred at a bath temperature of 140° for 3 hours. The mixture is then cooled to room temperature, worked up in the conventional manner and gives 6-[4-(4-(5-carbamoylbenzimidazol-1-yl)butyl)piperazino]-1,4-benzodioxane.
