A solution of EXAMPLE 283E (3.60 g, 9.5 mmol) in THF (100 mL) and water (25 mL) was cooled to 0° C. in an ice bath and treated with sodium periodate (2.42 g, 11.3 mmol). The ice bath was removed, and the mixture stirred for 3.5 h. The mixture was diluted with EtOAc (200 mL), washed with brine (3×), then dried (MgSO4). Solvent removal and drying under vacuum provided the product as a tan solid (2.68 g).
