Procedure

5 g of 4-fluoro-3-trifluoromethylbenzoic acid and 9 ml SOCl2 were stirred in 50 ml of MeOH at 60° C. for 8 h. The volatile constituents were then removed in vacuo to result in 5.1 g of a colorless oil, which was employed further without purification.
