6-(4-Chlorophenyl)-4,6-diketohexanol (14.43 g, 60 mM) was treated with 2-hydrazino-6-methoxybenzothiazole (11.72 g, 60 mM) in pyridine (10 ml) and MeOH (300 ml) at reflux for 72 hr. Work-up as described in Example 1 followed by recrystallization from MeOH afforded the title compound 6 as a white solid (19.4 g), mp=123°-125° C.; NMR(CDCl3) δ 6.3 (s, 1H, C4 -H); MS, m/e 399 (M+).
