Procedure

A solution of compound 9 (0.46 g, 1.3 mmol) and 20% aqueous NaOH (4.3 mL) in ethanol (3 mL) was stirred for 18 hours at room temperature, then was poured into water (100 mL) and treated with 1N HCl until pH 3. The precipitate was filtered, washed with dry ethanol and light petroleum ether to give compound 12 (0.36 g, 88%); mp 206-208° C. (washed with dry ethanol).

Workup

  1. filtrationThe precipitate was filtered
  2. washwashed with dry ethanol and light petroleum ether
