At 0° C., to a solution of 1-hydroxymethyl-cyclopentanecarbonitrile (10 g, 79.9 mmol) in CH2Cl2 (100 mL) was added pyridine (6.3 g, 79.9 mmol) and p-toluenesulfonyl chloride (12.18 g, 63.9 mmol). After stirred for 3 h, the solution was concentrated and the residue was used for next step reaction without further purification.
