To a solution of indolinone (130 mg, 0.98 mmol) in ethanol (5 mL) was added 5-bromo-2-methoxypyridine-3-carbaldehyde (J. Het. Chem, 1985, (22), 1583-1592) (200 mg, 0.98 mmol, 1 eq), followed by piperidine (0.194 mL, 1.9 mmol, 2 eq). The reaction mixture was heated at 80° C. for 2 hours and then allowed to cool to room temperature. The precipitate that formed was collected by filtration and washed with ethanol to give the title compound (180 mg, 55%).
