To a solution of 2-(4-nitrobenzyl)-1,3,2-dioxaphosphinane 2-oxide (Compound 230D, 70 mg, 0.27 mmol) in anhydrous THF was added 10% Pd/C (10 mg). The resulting mixture was heated at 50° C. under 50 psi H2 atmosphere for 6 h. Catalyst was filtered off and the filtrate was concentrated to give the desired product (50 mg, yield: 80%). 1H NMR (CD3OD, 400 MHz): δ=1.72-1.76 (m, 1 H), 1.98-2.02 (m, 1 H), 3.19 (d, J=20.4 Hz, 2 H), 4.28-4.40 (m, 4 H), 6.68 (d, J=8.0 Hz, 2 H), 7.03 (d, J=8.4 Hz, 2 H).
