A solution of 2-methyl-propane-2-sulfinic acid (8-nitro-quinolin-7-ylmethyl)-amide (Intermediate 209) (402 mg, 1.31 mmol) in dry MeOH (10 ml) under a nitrogen atmosphere was cooled to 0° C. HCl in dioxane (4M, 1.7 ml, 6.9 mmol) was added and the mixture was stirred at 0° C. for 1 h and allowed to warm to room temperature overnight. The mixture was concentrated in vacuo and the residue was triturated with dry ether (10 ml). The solid was collected by filtration, washed with dry ether and dried at room temperature to give the title compound as an HCl salt (180 mg, 100%).
