Procedure
Methanesulfonyl chloride (1.642 mL, 21.13 mmol) in DCM (5 mL) was added to a solution of (3R,4S)-tetrahydrofuran-3,4-diol (0.787 mL, 9.61 mmol) and Et3N (4.05 mL, 28.8 mmol) in DCM (10 mL) at 0° C. After stirring at 0° C. for 1 h, the mixture was diluted with DCM. The organic layer was washed with saturated aqueous NaHCO3, dried, and concentrated in vacuo to give the title compound as a yellowish white solid (2.5 g, 100%). 1H NMR (400 MHz, CDCl3) δ ppm 3.09-3.20 (m, 6 H), 3.90-4.07 (m, 2 H), 4.10-4.22 (m, 2 H), 5.19 (ddd, J=5.31, 3.54, 1.77 Hz, 2 H).
