ExxonMobil™ Aromatic 100 solvent vvas added into a 3-neck round bottom flask containing anthrone (10 g, 51.5 mmol) at room temperature. Potassium hydroxide pellets (0.33 g, 5.15 mmol) and 2-oxazolidinone (7.62 g, 87.5 mmol) were added, and the reaction mixture was heated to reflux and stirred for 2.5 h under nitrogen. The reaction mixture was cooled to room temperature, decanted, and filtered. The solvent was evaporated in vacuo to give 4.3 g (35%) of the desired amine. The crude reaction mixture could be further purified by flash column chromatography. 1H NMR (DMSO-d6, 400 MHz) δ 8.38-8.31 (m, 3H), 8.08-8.02 (m, 2H), 7.56-7.47 (m, 4H), 4.13 (dd, 2H, J=5.58, 5.58 Hz), 3.15 (dd, 2H, J=5.60, 5.60 Hz), 2.91 (bs, 2H). 13C NMR (DMSO-d6, 400 MHz) δ 150.7, 132.8, 128.4, 125.6, 125.4, 124.1, 122.1, 121.9, 78.2, 42.1.
