A solution of 5-cyclopropyl-4H-1,2,4-triazol-3-amine (1 g) and ethyl 2-[(2′-cyanobiphenyl-4-yl)methyl]-3-oxohexanoate (2.8 g) in 1,2,4-trichlorobenzene (20 mL) was stirred at 180° C. for 6 hr. After evaporation of the solvent under reduced pressure, the residue was purified by silica gel column chromatography to give the title compound as a colorless solid (0.7 g, 21%).
