HCl gas was bubbled through a solution of methyl 2-(bis-(tert-butoxycarbonyl)amino)-3-(pyrazine-2-carboxamido)benzoate 14 (2.8 g, 5.9 mmol) in MeOH (50 ml) for 2 h. The volatiles were removed in vacuo and H2O (20 mL) was added. The pH was adjusted to 7 using aq NaOH and the resulting precipitate was collected by filtration, rinsed with H2O, and dried under vacuum to give 15 (1.37 g, 85% yield).
