Procedure

A solution of 2-(difluoromethyl)benzoic acid 53 (1.8 g, 10 mmol) in thionyl chloride (25 ml) was heated at reflux for 3 h. The reaction mixture was concentrated and dried under vacuum to give 54. The crude acid chloride was used without further purification.
